Common Misconceptions of Differentiated Instruction
Most good teachers do differentiate, but good teachers will always look for better ways as well. If teachers become satisfied with differentiating in only a few ways and are not willing to reach all children, there will never be growth within that classroom. Differentiated instruction is not extra work as some may view it as, but it is necessary and integral in students reaching their full potential. It is not just for students with labels, but rather for all students who require different avenues to reach that potential. Being flexible and reaching out to the interests of students should enhance student learning across the board.
In the Differentiated Instruction in the Classroom video below, I saw an activity that looked very interesting called "Corners." It is about 2 and a half minutes into the video and it is interesting because I don't know that I've ever seen it used before. Take a look and see if you like it.
